Stephenson County, Illinois — Did you know socks are one of the most sought-after essentials during cold weather?
According to Tom Costello Jr., founder and “Chief Sock Person” at the Philadelphia-based nonprofit The Joy of Sox, even regular donors of clothing such as coats and pants will usually wear their own socks until they have holes and then throw them away.
Socks are among the most needed items at homeless shelters, yet among the least-often donated.
By donating new socks, families in need in Stephenson County will be able to have new socks this winter. All donations will be made to the Freeport Salvation Army.
Last year over 1,000 pairs were donated. Socks of any size will need to be turned in to the Stephenson County Farm Bureau Office by Thursday December 22, 2016.
If you know of someone who needs a new pair of socks, go to the Freeport Salvation Army and pick up a pair after the drive has ended – no questions asked!
The Socks for Stephenson County program is coordinated by the Stephenson County Farm Bureau’s CAP Foundation.
