Freeport, Illinois — A shots fired incident at The Konnect convenience store resulted in a felony arrest. The Freeport Police Department issued a press release stating that on January 17, 2017, at approximately 4:42 p.m., Freeport Police Officers and Detectives responded to a shots fired call the “The Konnect” convenience store located at 302 N. Galena Avenue in Freeport.
At the scene it was determined that both the suspect and the victim fled the area prior to officers arriving.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the incident started with a physical confrontation inside the store. After a short fight inside the store, one of the combatants exited the store and fired several gunshots at the person he had been fighting with as that person exited the business.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., Freeport Police Detectives located Marqwan Monroe at 620. W. Cottonwood Street and Monroe was taken into custody without incident.
Marqwan Monroe was subsequently charged with several Felony offenses in connection with the incident at “The Konnect” convenience store.
Additionally, Marqwan Monroe also had an outstanding Freeport Police Department warrant for Domestic Battery (misdemeanor) and two (2) contempt of court warrants from the Stephenson County Sherriff’s Office.
At the time of his arrest, Marqwan Monroe was on Felony probation in Stephenson County following a 3-9-16 conviction for Residential Burglary.
