Freeport, Illinois — If you happen to be traveling to or from the city of Cedarville this holiday season, you may want to consider taking a little Christmas detour and head east as you get close to Forreston Bank (formerly Kent Bank) off Rt. 26 north.
Since 2009 a local family tradition called “Christmas on Chelsea” has been the hotspot for a spectacular holiday light display, and thousands of people come out each year to experience the Christmas magic.
“Christmas on Chelsea” is a home on Chelsea Avenue that boasts 30,000 lights on the house, in trees and on displays throughout the property. Sightseeing guests can even tune to listen to the music as the annual display lights up the street and neighborhood.
As part of the annual display, the homeowners take donations each year. Outside the holiday display of lights is a secure, locked donation box at the end of the driveway. All the donations this year go to the FACC.
To get there, as you are heading between Cedarville and Freeport on Rt. 26 north, turn East at Forreston Bank, then take the 2nd street to the left. “Christmas on Chelsea” is down a few houses on the right.
Just shut off your headlights and tune your radio to 99.5 FM.
If you get a chance, go to N. Chelsea Avenue (behind the former Kent Bank) to enjoy the light show. Donations this year go to FACC.
