FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — An exciting and challenging event for FAST swimmers for several years now where swimmers collect pledges to donate to the team based on laps or miles completed is coming up this Monday.
It’s Mile Monday time and FAST swimmers are being challenged to do their “Mile Best” on Monday February 18th at Freeport Middle School.
Each mile is planned per group to swim straight with no stops and parents or friends are invited to come count laps and cheer the swimmers on. All swimmers who complete their challenge will get a certificate of accomplishment, with any bonus miles using a fancier certificate.
Elite Swimmers – 4 mile challenge, one stroke, one free, one kick, and one of your choice. Bonus Swim = mile of your choice.
Senior and Tag Swimmers – 3 mile challenge, one free, one kick Bonus Swim = mile of your choice
Competitive Swimmers – 2 mile challenge, one free, one kick Bonus Swim = mile of your choice
Developmental Swimmers – 1 mile challenge any way you want Bonus Swim = .5 mile of your choice
Novice Swimmers – .5 mile challenge any way you want Bonus Swim = .5 mile of your choice
Swimmers were asked to collect pledges to donate to the team based on laps or miles completed. A pledge form was sent home with swimmers. FAST says they will also accept flat rate donations if someone would rather donate that way.
All events will take place at FMS:
- 3:00 Senior and Elite swimmers start
- 4:00 Competitive swimmers start
- 4:45 Developmental swimmers start
FAST says after everyone has completed their swims, they will have a pizza party at the pool for the swimmers and families. FAST will provide the pizza, but they ask each family to bring a side dish, dessert, or drink to share.
Games and fun and recognition will follow the dinner.
