Freeport News Network — Since the age of seven music has been an indelible part my life. Its emotions have changed me, its attitude has empowered me and its simplistic singular ability to transcended generations has always fascinated me. There are people who are born just like you and I yet their destiny, is to touch the lives of millions. Chuck Berry is one of those gifts we were given.
Born in St. Louis on October 18, 1926 Chuck Berry was known as “The Father of Rock & Roll”. Tunes like “Johnny B. Goode,” “Maybellene” and “Memphis” have become anthems to an integrated American youth and popular culture. Chuck Berry brought people together, connecting the worlds of black and white together through his music.
Berry died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his home at the age of 90.
On his official website it states: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Chuck Berry – beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather – passed away at his home today at the age of 90. Though his health had deteriorated recently, he spent his last days at home surrounded by the love of his family and friends. The Berry family asks that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
