Freeport, Illinois — Come, all thankful people, come, and join in an ecumenical celebration of God’s blessings at Thanksgiving, hosted by the Freeport Clergy Group.
The many faith communities in Freeport and Northwest Illinois will join together in praise of God’s blessings at the Thanksgiving Worship Celebration on Monday, November 19, 2018. The lively ecumenical service will begin with hospitality at 6:30 pm, and worship will begin at 7:00 pm, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 607-641 E. Stephenson St, Freeport, IL.
The service will include music and prayers, offered as witness to the diversity of the faith communities in and around Freeport. The message for the evening will be given by Rev. Melissa Meyers, Senior Pastor at Faith United Methodist Church, Freeport.
A canned/packaged food items will be collected at the door, in support the Freeport Area Church Cooperative (FACC), whose mission is “provide emergency food, clothing, and shelter to those in need in northwest Illinois and to empower those we serve.” The offering for the evening will go to support a developing ministry to provide winter-appropriate footwear for children and youth.
The Freeport Clergy Group is an ecumenical gathering area clergy celebrating connection and ministry as a community of peers, working to bring the many faith communities in Freeport and the surrounding area into dialogue with each other. With participation from nearly forty faith leaders, the group is organized with the following commitments:
• Building community in Freeport and Northwest Illinois
• Creating ministry connections between our congregations
• Advocating for a Community inclusive of Race, Gender/Orientation, Ability, and Faith Tradition.
