Freeport, Illinois — Help FHS Thespians collect food for the Freeport Area Church Cooperative! FHS Thespians are proud to host Christmas Memories, a collection of humorous and heartwarming songs and stories. Guests should bring food donations for the Freeport Area Church Cooperative, which needs plenty of food to keep up with our community’s need for non-perishable food items.
Directors Becky and Tim Connors describe Christmas Memories as “our homemade Christmas card for the community. We love working with other FSD145 teachers and their families to make this show. Rehearsals are a joy! And we hope everyone with enjoy the show.” For the fifth time, Christmas Memories is presented by Freeport High School Thespians at Freeport High School, and ticket sales will support college scholarships for those students.
FSD 145 staff and family members LaFrancine Baker; Jody and Gary Brubaker; Becky, Henry, and Tim Connors; Livia Dinderman; Cecelie Eiler; Derek Simons; and Laura Stocker make up the cast. Robert Winter is the technical director.
Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory takes a nostalgic look at the fruitcakes and homemade ornaments of childhood Christmases. Traditional favorites such as A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore and How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss are featured. This year’s show highlights a brand new children’s book by Nicola Killen, The Little Reindeer. Freeport native Matt Bruehler wrote Christmas for the Birds, a delightfully punny spoof of a favorite Christmas carol. Newer stories like A Chanukah Story for Night Number Three will tickle the audience’s funny bone, while The Nothingest Girl in the World comments on the gifts we already have.
Music is an important part of the Christmas Memories joy. The cast will sing a variety of holiday tunes from traditional carols like Christmas is Coming and Joy to the World, to jazzier standards like Cool Yule and I’ve Got Your Love to Keep Me Warm. Other songs include Bing Crosby’s Christmas in Killarney, Judy Garland’s Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Raffi’s Must Be Santa, and Silver Bells. In addition to vocals, the program features piano, guitar, flute, and violin. It’s the perfect way to start the holiday season for adults and children.
