Join FHN For A Slice of Time Just For You

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — UPDATE: Due to tonight’s forecast for hazardous weather, (February 11, 2019) FHN is rescheduling tonight’s Slice of Time event. The rescheduled event will be held at the same time (5:30 – 7 p.m.) Monday, March 4 at Cannova’s, 1101 W. Empire Street in Freeport.

The Slice of Time event scheduled for next Monday (Feb. 18) will take place as scheduled; it has not been postponed.

FHN’s popular Slice of Time women’s events at Cannova’s Italian Cuisine are back this February with some great physician presenters and plenty of useful health information from the FHN women’s healthcare team.

Four FHN experts will give short presentations which participants will “attend” without leaving their table, and members of the FHN Women’s Healthcare Team will be on hand for conversation and to answer questions.

Family Medicine Physician Rebecca Pedersen, MD, will talk about getting important healthcare documents like advance directives in order; she’ll share tips on how to start the conversation with loved ones and talk about the importance of making these arrangements.

Gastroenterologist Timothy Laurie, DO, will talk about the pros and cons of two types of colon screenings – FIT (fecal immunochemical blood tests) and colonoscopies. FIT is non-invasive and has been endorsed as a good screen for colon cancer, but there are some reasons to get a regular colonoscopy.

Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Martinez, MSN, RN, will talk about Connect the DOTS, a community initiative working to help provide support to individuals and families in the area facing complex care challenges.

Audiologist Anneliese Hartman, AuD, will talk about ways to keep your hearing healthy, and ways to give it a little boost, if needed.

Spots for this free program – offered Monday, Feb. 11 and Monday, Feb. 18 – go fast. (The program will be the same both weeks; FHN asks that people sign up for just one event.) Each event begins at 5:30 p.m. at Cannova’s Italian Cuisine, 1101 W. Empire Street in Freeport. The program is free to attend and all attendees will receive complimentary snacks, drinks and dessert. Registration is required. Visit or call toll-free 1-877-6000-FHN (1-877-600-0346) ext. 901 to reserve a spot.
