(Freeport, Nov. 10, 2017) – Pretzel City Kitchens (PCK), a community kitchen open to the public, will be open for the public to tour as part of the FHN Festival of Trees Gala Nov. 17 at the Wagner House, 1 E Spring St in Freeport.
PCK is a certified, shared-use commercial kitchen on the first floor of Wagner House that will be available for emerging and established food-based ventures/businesses for help during start-up as well as providing commercially kitchen equipment, processing space, and support services. It will also be available for caterers and serve as a teaching space for cooking classes by businesses and educational organizations.
The kitchen will be open for display only during the Gala; the event’s hors d’oeuvres buffet will be served on the third floor of the Wagner House. Gala guests will be able to tour the kitchen as they view silent auction items for purchase that evening.
Pretzel City Kitchens is a collaboration of a number of community organizations including the University of Illinois Extension, CareerTEC, Highland Community College, the City of Freeport and a number of local business owners and community-minded citizens.
Bill Greene, owner of Wagner House, will be one of PCK’s regular key customers. “We like tastes, flavors of food, wine, spirits, beers, and really everything that goes with great dining,” says Greene. “We’re delighted that Pretzel City Kitchens will be here – if you want to host an event including food and drink, you won’t need any special licensing to bring your chef or caterer here – everything you need will be available right on our premises.”
“We’re very happy to have been able to partner with Bill and Wagner House on this project,” says University of Illinois Extension Manager and Pretzel City Kitchens Board President Margaret Larson. “By locating in this space, we are confident that we’ll be able to benefit from renting the kitchen to those having events there as well as opening it to folks who’d like to prep sweet corn for their home freezers or bakers who want to make their products in a commercially approved kitchen. We look forward to many years of growth, exciting community events, and success here!”
PCK is planning to open in time for fall classes and will host a fundraiser mid-autumn. Watch for information about rates and availability online soon – kitchen users will be able to reserve space 24/7 and all available equipment and services will be posted on their website at www.pretzelcitykitchens.org
