Column: Small Goals Lead To Big Results

It is said that 70% of people who start a workout plan quit. There are many reasons that people quit. Lack of motivation, the atmosphere of the gym, not having a workout buddy, and a boring workout are just a few reasons I have heard people say over the years.

There is one more that stands out in my mind and that’s goals that are too big. I am reluctant to use the word “unachievable” because most goals are very much achievable, in a reasonable amount of time.

All too often clients come in with big goals in mind. They want to lose a certain amount of weight, gain a certain amount of muscle, or just tone-up in a specific time frame. These are amazing goals and most definitely achievable, but not in their time frame.

I’m all for “go big or go home” but sometimes we have to take the big picture and break it down in to fewer segments. This is how we can help make your final result achievable. With each small goal that is accomplished our clients see results, stay motivated, work harder and look forward to reaching that next goal. It may take a little longer than planned to reach the end result, but I believe that doing so with small goals will keep you going and you will not be a part of the 70% that quit.

I also believe the more time and commitment you put into reaching a goal the more likely you are to keep the weight off, continue to increase muscle tone, or succeed at any other goals you make. If you want to lose 50 pounds make your first goal to lose 10. Think of how excited you’ll feel and how motivated you’ll be! Now shoot for 10 more and so on. Your goals can be never ending! You can and will see success with each step you make towards your Big result
