Column: The Skinny on Belly Fat Busters

I’ve always held the belief that you can’t spot burn fat as it comes off the entire body at an even pace but it always seems to be the most stubborn where we need to reduce the most. But despite this fact there are certain foods that have the ability to reduce the belly fat that we all seem to have in various volumes. So here they are:

Fibrous Veggies

Veggies are loaded with fiber and fiber is great for weight loss because it fills you up using fewer calories. It also helps to curb the flow of sugar into your bloodstream so less insulin is released. (Insulin promotes the storage of body fat)

Whole Grains

Arnold Schwarzenegger used to call white flour “white death”. You’re better using whole grains like brown rice and oatmeal to help burn fat. Foods you want to avoid are those containing refined grains such as processed cereals, white rice and all foods containing white (refined) flour such as English Muffins, bagels, white breads, biscuits and white pasta

Salmon

Packed with protein, salmon is a great source of calcium, omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin D. The healthy fats in salmon help fight belly fat by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing fat storage while ramping up fat oxidation

Green Tea

Green tea has catechins, a substance that some experts believe help burn adipose tissue around the belly. A 2009 study examined the weight loss effects of a beverage containing catechins and caffeine compared to drinks containing just caffeine. The study found that the participants who exercised using the green tea lost more belly fat and tended to lose more weight overall than those using just a caffeinated drink. Aim for three 8 ounce cups a day.
