STEPHENSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS — The selection committee formed by Stephenson County Board Chairman William Hadley has completed their search and a recommendation has been made for the appointment of Todd Welch to become the next Stephenson County Coroner. The recommendation to appoint Todd Welch as Stephenson County Coroner will now be voted upon by the full Stephenson County Board at their March 18th meeting.
During the Coroner search process, a total of six (6) candidates applied for the position. Stephenson County Board Member Andy Schroeder, the chairman of the selection committee, said “the field of applicants for this position was incredibly strong which made for a very competitive process and a difficult final decision”.
Todd Welch retired in 2013 as the Chief Deputy of the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office after twenty-three (23) years of service and is currently a member of the Stephenson County Board [R — District I]. Additionally, since retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Welch has been a part-time traffic safety instructor at Rock Valley College in Rockford and a substitute law enforcement instructor at CTE Academy in Elizabeth Illinois. Mr. Welch will be required to resign his Board seat to fill the position of Stephenson County Coroner.
The selection committee was led by Stephenson County Board Member Andy Schroeder, who serves as the Chairman of the Public Property and Safety Committee. The other members of the selection committee were Stephenson County Board Chairman William Hadley, Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders, Freeport Police Chief Matthew Summers, Andrew Chesney — Chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee, and John Burke — Funeral Director for Burke-Tubbs Funeral Homes, LTD.
