Freeport, Illinois — Last week our Freeport School District #145 announced a special date coming up called “Trusted Adults”.
According to a release FSD stated that parents, guardians, and other community members are invited to attend a training on February 1st for “Trusted Adults” in order to learn more about risk factors, warning signs, and how to help young people that may be displaying symptoms of depression or suicidal behavior.
The training will be offered at Freeport Middle School in the Conference Center in both the morning (9:30-10) and in the evening (5:30-6).
The School District also announced that in February, Carl Sandburg and Freeport Middle School social emotional support staff will be teaching 7th graders about how they can recognize potential suicidal behavior and “ACT– Acknowledge the signs of suicide, let your friend know you Care, and Tell a trusted adult.”
Classroom lessons are also being taught in the 9th grade at Freeport High School and with all students in alternative education programs (Freeport Alternative High School and Students in Transitional Education).
