If you were having trouble accessing Facebook or Instagram this afternoon, you weren’t alone. Downdetector.com, which monitors websites, showed the massively popular social network experiencing issues across a large portion of the U.S. and Europe in addition to issues in other areas in South America and Asia.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps,” a Facebook spokesperson said via email. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
Some users have reported login errors on the social media sites. Instagram is owned by Facebook. At this point, if you log out of Facebook, you might not be able to log back in.
It is not immediately clear what caused today’s issue.
Facebook, the world’s largest social network, relied on Twitter on Wednesday to explain that its apps were experiencing outages around the world.
Facebook-owned WhatsApp did not appear to be immediately impacted by the outage.
