NORTHERN, ILLINOIS — Starting in 2002 the annual Route 75 Sales event has become a literal shopping extravaganza for tens of thousands of people all over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The famous sales event involves hundreds upon hundreds of garage sales, flea markets, rummage sales, craft booths and refreshment stands in eight small communities along the highway between I-90 in Rockton/South Beloit and US Highway 20 in Freeport.
And it doesn’t end there.
Avid garage sale shoppers and treasure hunters can find everything they want and more along the route. Businesses and organizations go all out to welcome shoppers. Churches and organizations have flea markets and rummage sales. Restaurants and vendors sell food. Outside of the sales event Dakota, Illinois has a parade and all day celebrations at Dakota Park, including fireworks at night.
Organizers have announced this year the dates for the Route 75 Sales event will be Friday & Saturday, May 31 & June 1, 2019. Mark your calendars, put in your vacation requests, and start planning.
They also announced the volunteers who organize and promote the sales are looking to retire. The event organizers see the Route 75 Sales as a way to introduce visitors to the towns, businesses, rural scenery and other features of the area.
