PEARL CITY, ILLINOIS – Pearl City Elementary School recently held two Young Author Celebration nights to recognize winning writers from Kindergarten through sixth grade.
Judged on aspects like colorful details and logical format, book awards included classroom winners for K-3 and 4-6; in addition, an overall winner from each grade of 4th, 5th, and 6th will be traveling to the Young Author Conference for Illinois in May.
At the celebration nights, each author shared aloud his or her book with the audience.
K: Karlee Hammer, Alyssa Ehlers; 1st: Carmen Strohecker, Diem Gronewold; 2nd: Hendrix Feld, Rayne Becker; 3rd: Camdyn Smith, Gemma Musser; 4th: Mackenzie Lotz, Scarlett Snyder; 5th: Savannah VanHorn; 6th: Alonna Posey, Nathan Woodley. Overall grade winners traveling to the conference include Sydney Gassman (4th), Xander Krolow (5th), and Sylvia Schnoor (6th).

Pearl City’s Breakfast Club Book Club is off to a great start.
The group, comprised of nine 5th through 8th graders, is run by Mrs. Shauna Endress and Mrs. Allison Brouhard.
They meet on Tuesday mornings before school throughout the month of April.
They are currently reading Ghost by Jason Reynolds.
Aiden Gassman and Kayla Runkle of Pearl City High School attended the NUIC Sportsmanship Summit on March 20th in Pecatonica.
The summit gives student athletes the tools needed to promote good sportsmanship amongst their respective teams and activities.
Mrs. Robinson’s 2nd grade class at Pearl City Elementary participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) project.
The STEM project taught the students about what goes into building a skyscraper.
They learned about Frank Lloyd Wright during the unit and built their own skyscrapers.
They were also each received a 3D printed Frank Lloyd Wright clock.
