Freeport’s Former City Hall Up For Sale or Demolition Bid

Freeport, Illinois — May 24, 2017 — Freeport’s former city hall building is up for sale or demolition bid as of Monday this week. City leaders have decided to take action on the downtown historic building which was built in 1899.

The former city hall has been vacant since 2011 and many in the city would like to see the building re-purposed or used. It is estimated that just stabilizing the building would cost $600k. To renovate the building would cost more than $4 million.

23 News said they were told that if the city doesn’t find a buyer, the building is likely to be demolished.
