Public Invited to Meet Election Candidates, Attend Primary Debate Feb. 7

Freeport, Illinois – The candidates for contested primary election races for Mayor of Freeport and Township Assessor will debate Feb. 7 at a special event presented by the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce Business Advocacy Committee and Jitterbug Events.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Parkview, 1711 W. Church Street in Freeport, with a chance to meet all of the candidates running in the February 28 primary and April 4 general elections. All candidates in the following races have been invited to attend:

  • Mayor
  • HCC Trustee
  • Township Assessor
  • City Council
  • City Clerk
  • City Treasurer
  • Township Supervisor
  • Township Clerk
  • School Board
  • Park District Commissioner

Brief introductions of all candidates will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by the debate which will focus on candidates in the February 28 primary election races for mayor and township assessor.

Candidates expected to participate in the debate include:

Citizen’s Party Mayoral Candidates:

  • Joseph Cardoso
  • David Fonda
  • Mike Koester
  • Jodi Miller

The winner of the Citizen’s Party mayoral primary contest will face John Staben (People’s Party) and Andrew Crutchfield (Independent) in the general election April 4.

Citizen’s Party Township Assessor Candidates:

  • Brad Hartog
  • Meta Ridgway

The winner of the Citizen’s Party township assessor primary contest will be unopposed in the general election April 4.

The moderator for the event will be Terri Musser.
