4 Stephenson County Locations Make The Cut In New Netflix Movie

Stephenson County, Illinois — July 18, 2017 — If you happened to have read our article titled “72 Photos That Will Make You Fall In Love With Freeport, Illinois All Over Again” then you already know the abundance of sights to see, or even places to film there are here. But did you know there are three Stephenson County Locations that made the final cut in a Netflix movie?

The Indie film American Fable is a fairytale thriller set in the 1980s Midwest farm crisis about a courageous girl living in a dark and sometimes magical world. When 11-year-old Gitty discovers that her beloved father is hiding a wealthy man in her family’s silo in order to save their struggling farm, she befriends the captive in secret and is forced to choose between saving the man’s life and protecting her family from the consequences of their actions.

While there were seven film locations altogether, three of them were in Stephenson County.

  • Kent, Illinois, USA
  • Stockton, Illinois, USA (actually Jo Daviess county)
  • Freeport, Illinois, USA (Vera’s Hotel Room scene in the movie)
  • Pearl City, Illinois, USA (Gitty’s House scene in the movie)

The three other film locations were as follows;

  • (Sauk County) Spring Green, Wisconsin, USA (House on the Rock)
  • (Winnebago County) Pecatonica, Illinois, USA (County Fair)
  • (Iowa and Lafayette Counties) Blanchardville, Wisconsin, USA (Abandoned House)

The film had its official world premiere screening on Sunday, March 13 and is now also available on Netflix.

The Hollywood Outsider said of the film: “Nothing touched me as much as AMERICAN FABLE.  Much of that is due to the powerhouse performance delivered by Peyton Kennedy, a young lady with a very bright future in movies …. AMERICAN FABLE is a beautiful film. The farm fields are lush, the sky expansive, and the brief forays into the fantastic sumptuous. Peyton Kennedy is the stand-out star of the film, but everyone else brings their A game as well. In the day and age of constant blockbusters rattling the walls of theaters everywhere, a slower and more thoughtful movie is desperately needed.”
