Freeport, Illinois — The 2nd annual Paint the Port event took place this past Friday and hundreds of people came out to paint Chicago avenue in downtown Freeport into hundreds of little artistic 4’ squares.
The community-wide street paint party’s founder, Katie Ludwig says “Paint-the-Port helps people see the potential of this city by showing that when we all come together, progress can be made and beauty can come from it”.
We stopped down on a quiet Sunday morning to take a few photos of some of the community’s downtown creations.
Proceeds generated from sponsorships are used to help fund the City of Freeport’s façade improvement grant program. Last year the event raised $10,000 that was matched with $20,000 from the City to provide grants to downtown business owners looking to revitalize their storefronts and buildings.
