Early Morning Accident At Afolkey Rd Near Mill Rd Claims One, Seriously Injures Another

During the investigation of the accident, it was found that a Toyota Camry driven by Amya Fleming, age 19, of Freeport was traveling south bound on Afolkey Road, when it crossed the center line striking a Mercury Mariner driven by Caitlin Robinson, age 21, of Rockford Illinois. Caitlin Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Amya Fleming was transported by Lifeline helicopter to OSF St. Anthony’s hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Amya Fleming is currently listed in critical, but stable condition. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

STEPHENSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS — The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a press release this morning stating that at approximately 6:15 am today, August 24th 2019, Deputies from the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a traffic accident with reported injuries on Afolkey Rd near Mill Rd in rural Stephenson County.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a two vehicle head on crash with one vehicle on fire. The drivers of both vehicles were entrapped, with bystanders and first responders attempting to extricate them.

One of the drivers was transported to OSF St Anthony hospital in Rockford with life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Names of the drivers are being held pending notification of the families.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by The Cedarville Fire Department, Leamon’s Ambulance, Tri-District Ambulance, Lifeline Helicopter, Illinois State Police, Stephenson County Coroners Office, and the Stephenson County Highway Department.
