Following The Case: The Marcum And Blaser Murder Trials

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — In a tragic series of events, on Friday February 1, 2019 at approximately 5:11pm, Freeport Police officers in Freeport, Illinois responded to the intersection of West Avenue and Pleasant Street for a report of a male suspect physically assaulting a female at the scene of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers located an unresponsive 21 year-old female on the ground near a vehicle that had struck a snow pile. The female victim was found to have multiple stab wounds to her back, abdomen, and head. The female victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The victim’s name was Gabriel Ann Nicole Petsche.

Just two days later on February 03, 2019 in Cedarville, Illinois at about 1:47am the Sheriff’s Office responded to the Cedar Inn in Cedarville for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival Deputies found that three people had been shot. One of the three subjects that were shot was pronounced dead at the scene. The other 2 people were taken to Freeport Memorial Hospital, and one of them was transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital. Sheriff’s deputies were later notified that the person taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital had succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased person on scene was identified as Kyle Tucker age 35 of Freeport, and the second person who later died at Rockford Memorial Hospital was identified as Shaun Bradbury age 36 of Freeport. The third victim of the shooter was identified as Michael Steinhauser age 35 of Freeport.

The individual arrested in the February 1st stabbing death of Gabriel Ann Nicole Petsche was a 23 year old man named Chad Blaser. Blaser and Petsche had a child together whose name is Daymien. Daymien was in the back seat of the vehicle while his mother was being stabbed by his father. The incident has left Daymien without his parents.

Blaser also had a child with another woman, Olivia Marcum.

At or around the time of the stabbing death which occurred February 1, Marcum was seen posting comments about how she was glad the 21 year female was dead, saying on her Facebook page, “Karma’s bitch to a bitch who talk about killing people’s kids. Hahaha how’s death feel.” Later she said, “I don’t care about a bitch who talked about killing my kids now my bd killed her hahaha karma is a bitch.” Other conversations from Marcum date back eight and ten weeks prior to the murders. Some with Petsche.

The individual arrested in the February 3rd shooting deaths of Kyle Tucker and Shaun Bradbury, along with the attempted murder of Michael Steinhauser, was 23 year old Devin Marcum, the brother to Olivia Marcum.

On February 4, 2019 Olivia Marcum was arrested on previous charges she had, and was booked into the Stephenson County Jail.  This article will follow their cases.
