Freeport, Illinois born Troy Christensen has come a long way since his early roots in the city of Freeport. Christensen, who has been steering Wines in Australia and Europe out of their export doldrums since around 2007, was recently named as one of the most influential people in wine in the UK for 2018.
In an article released this week from Drinks Retailing News, Christensen ranked #14 on their top 100 most influential people in Wine 2018 list. The annual list encompasses retailers, suppliers, writers, lobbyists and TV stars and analyzes who is doing the most to shape the nation’s wine-drinking decisions.
“We have taken into account the circles in which they move, the ears they can bend and we have tried to celebrate longevity”, the article states.
Christensen, whose resume includes a stint as CEO of Accolade Wines, was previously president of Constellation Australia. He was appointed as CEO, Enotria and Co., one of the U.K.’s biggest wine merchants, in 2014. Enotria acquired Coe Vintners in 2015 creating one of the largest premium wine and spirits distributors in the UK.
Of Christensen, Drinks Retailing News says the former Accolade Wines boss has chalked up four years at the wine and spirits supplier Enotria & Coe, during which time it seems to have found an extra gear in terms of market presence.
“Christensen had put the focus on premium producers, aimed at providing Enotria’s retail accounts with opportunities to give their ranges interesting points of difference. Throughout his wine trade career, Christensen has been a vocal commentator on broader industry topics and his opinions on issues and trends are still carefully noted by competitors.”
Christensen is a 1984 graduate of Freeport High School.
