Freeport, Illinois – Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois have announced that a location in Freeport at the Meadows Shopping Center has been leased and that the group plans to open at that location in late May.
In a news release, GSNI members wrote the group has leased a site at Meadows Shopping Center, 1834 S. West Ave., Suite 21. The former Service Center, at U.S. Business 20 West, was recently sold.
“Plans are in the works for grand opening celebrations, and we’d love to see you there! You’ll get to meet the staff that will be working in your community, see the GSNI design created by FGM Architects, and, celebrate with your sister Girl Scouts”, the group stated.
The new Resource Center will allow current and potential members to purchase their Girl Scout uniforms and badges, and learn about GSNI programming. Plans are underway for a ribbon cutting ceremony, a family-centered party, and other opening celebrations.
The group says the location will make it convenient for members to stop in at their Resource Centers while completing many of your errands nearby. It is also a high trafficked location and we will be visible to non-members who will be encouraged to drop in to find out more about Girl Scouts. Additionally, the group says they are moving to smaller footprints where possible to reduce their environmental impact and better manage costs.
Initially, hours at this location will be:
Sunday – CLOSED
Monday – CLOSED
Tuesday – 10:00-1:00, 1:30-6:00
Wednesday – 11:00-3:00, 3:30-7:00
Thursday – 11:00-3:00, 3:30-7:00
Friday – 10:00-1:00, 1:30-6:00
Saturday – 10:00-5:00
“We have partnered with FGM Architects in Oak Brook, IL to design these spaces to make best use of small spaces, use our resources wisely and be easily accessible. They will be bright and welcoming for you to stop in and get everything the G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader™) in your life needs, from event registration to Girl Scout uniform components.”
The group also said they intend to have a “farewell week” at the current Freeport location in May. This would include special store offers, a Freeport store commemorative patch and cupcakes. The group says they will announce the timing on their website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations and on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
“We will fondly remember our time at the current Freeport location.”
The location at US Business 20 West was previously a home and a supper club before being purchased in 1990 by Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts to serve as an office. In 2009, Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts combined with 3 other local Girl Scout councils to form Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.
GSNI serves 16 counties, including parts or all of Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago.
