UPDATE February 4, 2019 — Freeport Police have released the name of the woman who was stabbed to death in Freeport on Friday.
Authorities say Gabriel A. Petsche, 21, was found stabbed to death near a car that hit a snow bank Friday night at the intersection of West Avenue and Pleasant Street in Freeport.
Police arrested 23-year-old Chad Blaser, Petsche’s ex-boyfriend. He’s accused of stabbing Petsche in the back, stomach and head.
Blaser is charged with murder and is being held in the Stephenson County Jail. Freeport Police say Blaser has been arrested for domestic violence in Green County, Wisconsin. No orders of protection had been filed against him.
Freeport Police say Petsche was driving north on West Avenue when Blaser began stabbing her before she crashed into a snow bank. Police say Blaser took off from the scene before officers arrived. Petsche and Blaser’s 11-month-old child was in the back seat of the car during the incident. The child was taken to the hospital and is OK.
An autopsy is being performed Monday. Family and friends of Petsche are creating a memorial at the scene of the crime.

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — Chad Blaser (age 23) of Freeport is in custody for First Degree Murder following an investigation into a 21 year-old female who was stabbed multiple times.
On February 1st, 2019, at approximately 5:11pm, Freeport Police officers responded to the intersection of West Avenue and Pleasant Street for a report of a male suspect physically assaulting a female at the scene of a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers located an unresponsive 21 year-old female on the ground near a vehicle that had struck a snow pile. The female victim was found to have multiple stab wounds to her back, abdomen, and head. The female victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Within minutes of responding to the scene a Freeport Police Sergeant located Chad Blaser, the 23 year-old ex-boyfriend of the victim, approximately 11/2 blocks west of the scene. Chad Blaser was taken into custody without incident and transported to FHN Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor lacerations to one of his hands. Following treatment, Chad Blaser was transported to the Freeport Police Department where he was booked on a charge of First Degree Murder. Chad Blaser is currently being held at the Stephenson County Jail in lieu of bond.
Freeport Police say they are not looking for any additional suspects in this case and there is no danger to the public. Additional criminal charges are expected to be filed against Chad Blaser on Monday. The identity of the female victim is not being released until her family is notified.
“This is so sick, now that poor baby of theirs lost their parents tonight”, one person commented.
Another, “it’s heartbreaking”.
“She was such a sweetheart, (no one deserves this) but her heart was too pure for the people she allowed into her life”, another person said of the events that transpired.
“Tremendous prayers for Gabby and Chads precious little boy. So tragic that he has lost both of his parents. ”
