At This Freeport, Illinois Highschool, Everyone Is A King & Queen

Freeport, Illinois — Aquin High School in Freeport, Illinois has a unique tradition that sets them apart from pretty much every other school in the country. A 92 year old tradition of ‘drawing’ for prom dates that goes back to the 1920s when the school wanted to make sure that the many orphans who attended the school would have the opportunity to go to the dance.

Today the tradition continues.

Last year news of Aquin’s High School prom made the national news circuit all throughout the country. The school was featured in hundreds of nationally recognized news outlets and the Aquin prom story reached into neighborhoods, homes and into people’s lives with their unique story of high school togetherness.

This year WREX caught the annual event as it was happening.

The school was also featured on NBC Nightly News in its segment they call “Inspiring America”, shown below.
