Freeport Illinois — The Freeport Community Foundation announced today that Daniel Schmitt, Executive Director of FCF, has decided to retire effective December 31, 2018.
Schmitt has served in his current role since February 2012, and prior to that, served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation. During Schmitt’s tenure, he played a critical role in helping the Foundation become more compliant with industry standards as well as establishing several new funds. During his term, the Foundation’s assets increased from just over $3 million to $5 million.
Kim Beggin, FCF Board President stated, “Dan has done an exemplary job in fostering relationships between our donors and the organizations in Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties. Dan has worked diligently at supporting our mission of providing for the well-being of Freeport/NW Illinois and we cannot thank him enough for his commitment to our foundation.”
Beggin continued, “We are excited and hopeful for the next chapter of the Freeport Community Foundation and are currently in the process of interviewing quality candidates. Ideally, we will have someone in place at the onset of 2019.”
Prior to joining the Foundation, Dan worked at Honeywell Sensing & Control in a variety of sales, marketing, and supply management roles.
Dan plans on spending more time with four grandchildren and traveling with wife Nancy. He also plans to stay involved as a volunteer with non-profits in Freeport.
