FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — FHN has been named one of the state’s best midsize employers by Forbes magazine.
The business magazine partnered with market research firm Statista to pinpoint the organizations liked best by employees in this, their first-ever ranking of America’s best employers by state.
“This is a great honor and it makes me very proud to work at FHN,” said FHN President and CEO Mark Gridley. “Of the 100 winning companies in Illinois, just seven were healthcare providers and only one other operates in northwest Illinois.”
The companies were nominated by someone employed there (who remains anonymous) and the winners were chosen based on interviews of 80,000 U.S. employees who were consulted through several online panels. The evaluation was based on several criteria:
Direct recommendation: Employees were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. The responses were on a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 means “I wouldn’t recommend my employer under any circumstances” and 10 means “I would definitely recommend my employer.”
Indirect recommendation: Participants were also prompted to evaluate other employers in their region and respective industries that stand out either positively or negatively.
Work-related conditions: Employees were asked their opinions about their employer in 35 questions about work-related topics such as working conditions, salary, potential for development, and company image.
The ranking is divided into two lists: One for the top large companies with more than 5,000 U.S. employees, and another for the top midsize companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees; FHN is in the latter group.
Companies were categorized by state, with Illinois having 100 winning companies. (The numbers were different state-to-state, with Texas having the most at 200 and Rhode Island the fewest at four.)
