FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — The Greater Freeport Partnership has been awarded a $2,500 Neighborhood Grant from HomeStart and the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL) for beautification efforts in Downtown Freeport.
“Our committee has great plans for Downtown Freeport and we extend a hearty thanks to HomeStart and the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for awarding us this grant. The grant will kick-off a multi-phased effort to replace downtown street furniture,” said Greater Freeport Partnership Development Director Andrea Schultz Winter.
For the first phase the Partnership will match the $2,500 and leverage that investment to raise another $2,500 in donations from downtown businesses. The total of $7,500 will purchase six new litter receptacles and two new benches to be placed Downtown Freeport. “This is really a collaborative effort. We are able to make this happen because of support from business owners, the City of Freeport, the grant and the Partnership,” said Schultz Winter.
There will be a reception for this year’s recipients on Wednesday, May 22 at HomeStart’s Rockford office.
The Greater Freeport Partnership works to drive economic growth, promote and advocate for Stephenson County. Downtown Freeport beautification has been identified as one of the organization’s strategic goals along with other revitalization and development efforts.
