Freeport, Illinois — The Carousel in Krape Park is undergoing a renovation this winter with plans to reopen in Spring of 2019. The entire carousel structure was disassembled and put into storage recently so the existing site could be redone. Nicam Construction of Freeport was the lowest competitive bidder for site work that includes replacement of Carousel pad, walkways and iron fencing with limestone pillars. While disassembled, the Carousel will receive an overhaul while keeping the spirit of the 1995 renovation intact.
According to Ron Schneider, Superintendent of Recreation, “The Carousel has been a community treasure and focal point in Krape Park since its installment in 1959. Nearly sixty years later, we’re making improvements from the ground up to ensure its legacy and enjoyment for generations to come.”
