Freeport, Illinois — Over the past couple years we’ve conducted a lot of surveys asking how you feel about some of the areas best hotspots and when it comes to pizza, while the results are close, hands down the pizza that comes from Maria’s always gets the highest number of votes.
Up until a little over a month ago we have all been able to order that delicious pizza too, along with the many other items from their menu. In late March of this year, the kitchen portion of Maria’s caught fire forcing the restaurant to close, and forcing all of us to have to go without one of our favorite places to eat.
Wanting to get an update, we called the lounge next to Maria’s Pizza, (Maria’s Gaming Lounge) who told us Maria’s is now just able to get started on some of the remodel work. We’re told the place has been gutted, and that work to rebuild will be starting soon. The damage from the Fire was estimated to be over $200,000.
As far when we will all get our Maria’s Pizza back, we’re told it might be 3-6 months yet before the restaurant will be able to open their doors again. Considering that even leftover Maria’s pizza only lasts so long, a lot of us are going to suffer through withdrawals.
We were asked to remind everyone as well, that Maria’s Gaming Lounge is open next door, and that they do serve food such as sandwiches and light bar / lounge food there. The Lounge serves lunch, dinner, coffee and drinks, plus you could win some money while you’re there from playing the machines.
The Lounge is open Monday-Sunday until 1:00 a.m.. On Sunday’s the Lounge opens at 11:00, while the rest of the week the Lounge opens at 10:00 a.m.. Maria’s Gaming Lounge serves food from 3-9 p.m. every day.
The Lounge is located at 928 W Galena Ave.
