Freeport – Highland Community College is sponsoring a very special Alumni Night in conjunction with the last home Cougar men’s and women’s basketball games at the Larry F. Kahl Gymnasium, located in the YMCA/Sports Complex on Thursday, February 18. Tipoff for women’s game is 5:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:00 p.m.
All HCC alumni who have already registered – or will register – as Alumni Association members will be given free admission to the men’s and women’s games on February 18, and a season pass for free admission to all home basketball and volleyball games during the 2016-2017 athletic seasons. Alumni Association volunteers will be present to greet fans.
“Anyone who has taken, or is taking a class, participated in HCC Leadership programs, or completed a certificate or degree is considered a Highland alum,” says Alumni Association president, Jeff Cowman. “Alums will also receive a free Alumni Association static window decal at the door.”
There will be a special drawing for all fans at the conclusion of the men’s game. All fans will be entered into a drawing for an Apple IPad mini 2, a Cougar warm-up suit, and Cougar jacket. Individuals must be present to win.
The half-time presentation will include an announcement about the renewal of the HCC Cougar Hall of Fame and the Student Senate’s Name the Cougar contest which will culminate in an official naming of the Highland mascot in April.
“We are very excited about each of these initiatives,” said Highland president, Tim Hood. “The Student Senate, Athletic department, Alumni Association, and HCC Foundation coming together to hold an event such as this is indicative of the positive energy around campus and throughout the College district.”
At the conclusion of the men’s game, all fans are invited to enjoy free “Hall of Fame cake” in the gymnasium.
The Highland cafeteria, the Arts Cafe, is also getting involved in the excitement by inviting alumni to campus for lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on February 18 for “Cookies for Cougars” to enjoy a free cookie while supplies last. The Arts Cafe is located on the first floor of the Student/Conference Center.
