Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Carroll, Jo Daviess, Rock Island, Stephenson, Whiteside Until January 24 at 6:00PM

NORTHERN, ILLINOIS — A strong arctic front will sweep through the area Thursday. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will create considerable blowing snow with reduced visibilities. Near white out conditions are possible in rural areas. The very strong winds combined with falling temperatures will create wind chills of 15 to 25 below zero Thursday afternoon.

Thursday night into Friday the winds will diminish but bitter cold temperatures will settle across the area. Wind chills Thursday night into Friday morning may be 25 to 35 below zero.

* WHAT…Blowing snow expected Thursday with near whiteout conditions in rural areas. Dangerously cold wind chills Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph Thursday. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero Thursday afternoon and up to 35 below zero Friday morning.

* WHERE…Portions of east central Iowa and northwest Illinois.

* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 11 AM to 6 PM CST Thursday. For the Wind Chill Watch, from Thursday evening through Friday morning.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
