If you see a Freeport Police Officer disregarding the usual clean-shaven policy in November, it's probably because he donated $25.00 to our local cancer center. What about your place of employment? Did you know??

The Lindo movie theater was built in 1922. A contest was conducted to name this Rapp & Rapp designed theatre when it opened on April 17, 1922. The prize-winning name ‘Lindo’, was taken from the names Lincoln and Douglas to commemorate their second debate, which had been held in Freeport.

Seating for 1,200 was provided on one level, with no balcony. A stage was provided for vaudeville performances, with dressing rooms below the stage. It was equipped with a Bennett pipe organ. It was closed in May 1934 due to financial issues, but was re-opened in February 1938. In 1939 it had a new owner and was re-named Freeport Theatre and continued until closing in 1984.

The cinema was purchased by Classic Cinemas and the name reverted back to Lindo Theatre. It was divided into three screens and in 1997 three more screens were added.

Be The Change #FreeportAllIn
... See MoreSee Less

Stephanie Stewart Feld, founder of Be The Change, believes that fostering a better and more beautiful community starts within each of us as individuals. When asked how her initiative began she responded: "I always wanted to help, I always wanted to do something, I always had a lot of love in my heart to give. I got so lost because I wanted to help everything, so I wasn’t doing anything. Finally, I decided to start on one thing that I noticed in my everyday environment – picking up the litter in my neighborhood. That went from being just me, to a group of friends dressed up as superheroes and eventually elevated into the Be The Change (BTC- Beautify the Community) initiative." Thanks for being "All In" Stephanie! #FreeportAllIn

Freeport values hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit. Alexa'nBrian Nissen came back to their hometown and opened up Abet Books and Games in 2014. “Freeport is a gold mine for an aspiring entrepreneur. The barrier to entry can be navigated with help from the community and the possibility of positive return is within grasp for anyone willing to invest in the equity of hard work. There have been many fun additions to the downtown recently. Even businesses that are in direct competition with each other can get excited. All boats rise in a high tide.” #FreeportAllIn
