Just wanted to take a moment to write about what happened tonight to my sister and her husband...this was their first year living on Stephenson and they were so excited to be participating in Halloween....they greeted every child young and old, with costumes and without, with an open heart! I had purchased a special felt Mickey Mouse basket for them to put their candy in. we had a nice little fire going in the pit....around 7:00 we stepped into the house for a moment and when we came back out we noticed that a clear container that was sitting on their porch by the front door was gone...in it about 80 dollars worth of candy ..and if that wasnt bad enough they took my little nieces plastic pumpkin she had left outside with all her candy...and if that still wasnt enough they took the beautiful Mickey Mouse container I had gotten for them. These two have such generous hearts and are good people. Im just writing in case someone finds the Mickey Mouse basket in their home...it was taken from some wonderful people..I did find the clear bin on Stewart St..of course it was empty...What is the world coming to when Halloween cant even be celebrated with joy and open hearts..Thanks for listening ... Press Release Multiple arrests at Freeport High School after fights break out. Today at approximately 11:15am, the Freeport Police Department (F.P.D.) responded to Freeport High School (FHS) after the F.P.D. School Resource Officer requested emergency assistance for a large disturbance on the second floor. While restoring order at the school, ten (10) students were arrested for various misdemeanor offenses. Preliminary indications are that a fight broke out earlier in the morning at Freeport High School between two (2) female students, which may have been the cause of a second larger fight on the second floor of the high school. The second larger fight was the event that required emergency assistance due to the large number of students that were present. While police officers and FHS staff members were trying to restore order on the second floor, several other smaller fights broke out throughout the school. At this time it is believed that no FHS staff, FHS students, or police officers sustained any serious injuries during this event. During this incident Troopers from the Illinois State Police, and Deputies from the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist, and the F.P.D. appreciates their assistance and cooperation. A Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office tactical team that was traveling to a nearby training exercise when this incident happened was part of the response. The armored tactical vehicle that was present at FHS was part of the Sheriff’s Office tactical team who responded to FHS. FHS officials placed the school in a “hard lock down” for the remainder of the school day for precautionary reasons; as well as to ensure the safety of students and staff.
