Tornadoes and severe weather can occur at any time of day or night. The nighttime hours are particularly dangerous because most people are sleeping. An alarm will sound on the NOAA Weather Radio when a Warning is issued. Having the radio near your bed will alert you to danger, waking you up when danger is near. #SummerSafety ow.ly/uIiD30coFvK

A weather system moving toward the area out of the central Plains, will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area from this morning and into the afternoon. There is a chance that some stronger storms will occur, capable of producing hail and gusty winds. Areas generally along and south of the Interstate 80 corridor are more favored for the stronger storms by this afternoon. Locally heavy downpours will also accompany the thunderstorm clusters. Most of the showers and storms will then move east of the local area by late afternoon or early evening. High temperatures will vary under the moving areas of clouds and precipitation, ranging from the upper 60s to upper 70s. Clearing skies and light east winds may allow for some areas of fog late tonight. Warmer temps are then on tap for Saturday, along with another round of showers and thunderstorms from late afternoon and into the evening. Some storms may be strong to severe in the south on Saturday, where the Storm Prediction Center has placed a slight risk for severe storms generally along and south of the Highway 34 corridor.
