Freeport, Illinois – Beginning later this month and continuing through the month of April, Carl Sandburg Middle School will once again be participating in the “Light It Up Blue” campaign to promote awareness and understanding of autism. April is National Autism Awareness Month and April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. The activities planned by the student support services team at CSMS will include:
- an advisory lesson (video and discussion) to promote awareness and acceptance of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders
- a classroom decorating challenge with prizes for one advisory class per grade level that is most creative in promoting the theme
- “Light It Up Blue” day on March 23rd – students will be encouraged to wear as much blue as possible on this non-uniform day and will have an opportunity to take photos with a giant selfie sign and possibly a photo booth at lunch time.
