Freeport, Illinois — While I cannot claim to remember much of the 70’s and 80’s, one aspect of the time that I do remember is the band Transit. As a guitar player since the age of seven, one individual that I always enjoyed watching play was Transit’s guitarist, Carl Schwartz. Man, can that guy shred on the guitar.
I learned recently however, that on April 24th of this year, Carl was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Upon hearing the news, my thoughts of Carl the guitar god, turned to thoughts of Carl and his family, Carl and his friends, Carl’s close loved ones and of course, of Carl himself.
Because of the news, friends and family are putting together a benefit to help Carl. A benefit with a silent auction, food and lots of fun, where friends and family can come together to help support what Carl is, and will be, going through. All the food to be served will be local, farm fresh roasted hog, chips and soda/water for $8.00
As of right now there are already over a dozen local businesses who are donating to the event, along with many friends and family who are gathering food, drinks and other items needed. The benefit for Carl is being held Saturday, June 16 between the hours of 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. at the local Eagles Club on Galena Avenue.
If you would like to help out you can reach out through the Facebook Event page here. We hope all who can, will attend this event and show your support for Carl Schwartz, as he goes through this trying time.
