Freeport Art Museum’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ Exhibition Salutes the Postcard

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS – The Freeport Art Museum will open a group exhibition in the Contemporary Gallery titled Wish You Were Here, on Friday, May 26th from 5-7 p.m. Exhibiting artists include current members of Freeport’s Momentum Art Guild.

In today’s world of ever-changing technology and social media, the art of postcard and letter writing has largely gone by the wayside. This exhibition salutes the postcard as a throwback to the days when picking out a postcard was part of the excitement of the journey. MAG artists have creatively interpreted the postcard as a nostalgic form of communication. The exhibition title refers to one of the most common phrases written on the backs of postcards and alludes to a simpler, less technologically driven era.

The Momentum Art Guild (MAG) is a regional organization dedicated to enhancing interest in the visual arts, and supporting the development of individual artists. Members of MAG foster opportunities, provide mutual support, and work for the general promotion of art and the advancement of those who create it.

The exhibition will run through August 11, 2017 in the second level Contemporary Gallery.

The Freeport Art Museum is a private, not-for-profit organization that works to promote an understanding of art and culture through collections, exhibitions, and educational programs. Their vision is to contribute to the vibrancy and revitalization of our community by becoming the region’s foremost resource and destination for art.
