Freeport, Illinois – Freeport Choral Society will present its Summertime Blues Pops Concert on Sunday August 7, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Krape Park in the beautiful outdoor Koenig Amphitheatre. In the event of rain, the location will be changed to St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 S. Park Blvd., Freeport.
Gwynne French will conduct the society choir. Randy Cook will provide keyboard accompaniment with Patty Weik on percussion. Kyle Kleckner will add saxophone solo as well to “Jesus Loves Me” in a jazzy style.
This summer’s concert has featured selections from Tin Pan Alley, oldies, gospel, folk songs, and patriotics. “The Blues” and “Blue” songs cover a major portion of the concert including “Birth of the Blues,” “Blue Moon,” “Blue Tango” and “Blues in the Night” by the society women. “Earth Angel” will feature the men. Soloists include Steve McMillen, Merlin Meinert, Jarrod Severing, Millie Sturtz, and French.
There is no admission, but an offering will be taken. Walker Mortuary is assisting in the sponsorship of this venture with advertising and support at the concert.
