Highland To Feature Evening of Music By The Big Band and Concert Band

FREEPORT — The Highland Community College Big Band and Concert Band will take the stage beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, in the Fine Arts Theatre on Highland’s campus.

Highland Big Band Director Bill Petersen and his ensemble will feature selections from Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and the Woody Herman Big Bands.  This concert will feature several selections from Stan Kenton’s “The Stage Door Swings” album.

The Concert Band, directed by Scott Stich, will perform Toccata Marziale by Ralph Vaugh Williams; The Dragoons of Villars Overture by L. Aime’ Maillart; Field Ayres, American Traditional Drum and Fife Tunes, arranged by Douglas Richard, including: Three Camps, Downfall of Paris, and Hell on the Wabash; and selections from “Evita” by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for students and may be purchased by calling 815.599.3718 or at the door before the performance. There is a $2 service fee for each ticket.
