FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2700 W. Stephenson Street, Freeport, will hold a Summer Solstice worship service on Friday, 21 June 2019, at 8:00 pm.
Join members and friends of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at this outdoor worship service held by their Prayer Labyrinth. The outdoor Prayer Labyrinth is in the yard to the east of the building, easily accessible from the east side of the parking lot off of Park Crest Drive. Following the worship service there will be the opportunity to walk and pray the Prayer Labyrinth, and tie ribbons to an arch that is set up at the entrance to the Prayer Labyrinth. The ribbons floating in the breeze signify our prayers ascending to God.
The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its northern most point in the sky. It is the official start to summer in the northern hemisphere. It is a time to give thanks to God for the light, and the gifts of creation.
The worship service will include hymns, prayers, scripture, poetry, and art. Everyone is invited to come and join in the celebration of the start of summer.
