8. Freeport Fire Department Local #441 Fill The Boot

On Saturday September 10 on the corner of South and West streets as well as Cub Foods and Shopko in Freeport the Freeport Fire Department Local #441 will be collecting money for the MDA. As your out and about in these areas stop by and say hi to one of our local firefighters and help them fill the boot. Watch a clip from last year.

1. 66th Annual Lena Lions Fall Festival

How’d you like to win a new car? This Weekend Lena celebrates their 66th annual Lena Lions Fall Festival. What some call the Cadillac of Small Town Festivals the Lena Lions Fall Festival is definitely an event for the entire family not to miss. With carnival rides, food, plenty of activities and games for the kids, plus food, stage entertainment both Friday and Saturday nights and also a parade Saturday at Noon, come join in the fun this year in Lena. While you’re there pick up a raffle ticket for your chance at winning a new car. The festival starts tonight at 6:00 p.m.

This is an event that benefits those fighting cancer and is put on by the Betty Shaffer Foundation. The Betty Shaffer Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 public foundation established to honor the life and legacy of Betty Shaffer. The Mission of The Betty Shaffer Foundation is to provide educational and community support to Freeport and the surrounding areas, while promoting awareness of ovarian and other gynecological cancers. A Community Remembrance Luminary Walk will be held in Pearl City, Illinois, on Sunday, September 11 at 7:30 pm. The Luminary Walk will be held at the Homecoming Boulevard adjacent to the Pearl City American Legion on Main Street, Pearl City. The Luminary Walk will honor all Veterans, Members of the Armed Forces and all First Responders including police, EMTs and firefighters. The event will also remember the events and those who lost their lives on 9/11. Parking available at the Pearl City American Legion or Pearl City Schools.
