Yesterday in Freeport the city tore down another former landmark and memory in the city. The End Zone formerly Bookies located at 1411 south galena was demolished early in the morning Tuesday in the Port.
The City of Freeport is one of fifteen cities statewide awarded funding under the Blight Reduction Program, a program funded by the U.S. Treasury’s Hardest Hit Fund. The City has already taken down more than 50 structures in the past three years.
We stopped by today to capture some footage and here’s some scenes from the latest property in Freeport to become just another memory. The home next to the structure is scheduled to be taken down later today or tomorrow.
While we agree, old and unsafe buildings need to be demolished in our city, losing these landmarks and businesses is bittersweet. It is our hope we continue to look towards ways of rebuilding our city and investing in new opportunities that can help make Freeport and its people prosper.
Take Care End Zone. Thanks for the memories.
