WASHINGTON – On July 1st, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced a $1,304,469 grant for the Northwestern Illinois Community Action Agency to operate their Head Start program. Head Start promotes the school readiness for young children from low-income families from birth to age five by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. The grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will help fund Northwestern Illinois Community Action’s Head Start classrooms in East Dubuque and Freeport, which serve 190 children.
“I’m proud to help announce this important early childhood education funding that will help kids in East Dubuque and Freeport get a better start in life,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “Head Start is such an important program that ensures all of our children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Even in these tough economic times, we must continue to make these important investments in our children’s future.”
