FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — Downtown Freeport will be bright for the holidays with a show of festive spirit and humble recognition for our local heroes. The Hero Tree will stand majestically in front of the bell tower at the Stephenson County Courthouse for all to see from Sunday, November 24 through the new year.
To make the tree truly represent Stephenson County heroes, we need your help! We are inviting any Stephenson County resident to create a Hero Ornament to be hung on the tree for this holiday season.
Clear bulb ornaments can be picked up at the Greater Freeport Partnership office located at 27 W Stephenson Street, Freeport, for free. Decorate your ornament with copy of your hero’s photo and any other material you choose.
All decorated ornaments must be returned to the same office by November 22 to be placed on the tree. The tree will be lit on November 24 at 12:00 pm during a special ceremony during Mistletoe Walk and will be lit nightly through January 5.
Mistletoe Walk is a Downtown Freeport shopping experience highlighting many boutiques, restaurants and other shopping destinations in the area on Sunday, November 24 hosted by the Greater Freeport Partnership. For more information, check out Mistletoe Walk 2019 on Facebook.
