Founder of Jhoole Fashion to Speak at Freeport Rotary Club

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — The Freeport Noon Rotary Club will meet using Zoom technology at noon on Monday, November 2nd. The local club meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at noon through Zoom technology. The guest speaker will be Hannah Warren, founder of Jhoole Fashion.

In 2008, Hannah Warren, a former Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Thailand and a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to India, learned about the plight of female weavers while taking their portraits in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, India. She was inspired to found Jhoole, a nonprofit eco-fashion social enterprise designed to combat poverty and empower women. Jhoole is now a locally managed, sustainable organization that helps women to gain economic independence, invest in education and, ultimately, break the cycle of chronic poverty.

Hannah has a BA in South Asian Studies and Linguistics from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies and an MA in Fashion Entrepreneurship from the University of the Arts London, London College of Fashion. She currently works part-time as Executive Director of Jhoole and part-time as the Development and Marketing Director of Womanspace, a nonprofit organization that empowers women in Rockford, Ill.

Freeport Rotary Club was established in 1919 to provide service to others and promote integrity through fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. The Club participates in local services projects targeting youth literacy, scholarly recognition, student international exchange, and purchasing shoes for disadvantaged youth. Meetings are held at noon on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at the Stephenson County Farm Bureau. For more information, contact Tonya Thayer at 815-599-7213.
