Freeport Rotary Club Takes Meetings Online Via Zoom

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — The Freeport Noon Rotary Club has resumed bi-monthly meetings using Zoom technology. The local club will continue to meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at noon.

The speaker for the May 18th meeting will be Kirstin Hinds, the Assistant to the City Manager, and she will be speaking on the topic of the 2020 Census. Kirstin has been serving in her current role since June 2019, and in addition to leading Freeport’s Census campaign, she also assists the City Manager & staff with a variety of projects.

Kirstin attended the University of Iowa for undergrad, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Communications and an Event Management Certificate. During her time in Iowa City, Iowa, she worked for a local non-profit organization, similar to the Greater Freeport Partnership that held public events focused on arts and culture.

Directly after her undergraduate career, she began the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at Northern Illinois University, receiving her graduate degree with an emphasis on Local Government Management in May 2019. While completing her MPA, she worked for the City of Wood Dale’s Community Development Department, building and maintaining relationships with incoming and existing businesses.

Kirstin was hired by the City of Freeport through the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) Local Government Management Fellowship Program, a career-development opportunity designed to attract recent Master of Public Administration (or related programs) graduates to be placed in full-time management-track local government positions. Freeport is one of about 30 cities to host a fellow through ICMA’s program.

Freeport Rotary Club was established in 1919 to provide service to others and promote integrity through fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. The Club participates in local services projects targeting youth literacy, scholarly recognition, student international exchange, and purchasing shoes for disadvantaged youth. Meetings are held at noon on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at the Stephenson County Farm Bureau. For more information, contact Tonya Thayer at 815-599-7213.
