Pearl City, Illinois — More great news this week from Pearl City schools as Pearl City celebrates their bright young authors and highlights 3rd graders who are studying the California Gold Rush.
Two nights honoring the winners were held March 12 (4th-6th) and March 13 (K-3rd) and included each Young Author reading aloud their creative stories. One student each from 4th through 6th grades has the opportunity to attend the Young Author Conference May 19 in Normal, IL.
Also this week, Pearl City 3rd graders were studying the California Gold Rush.
Mrs. Brouhard’s 3rd grade class finished up their study of the California Gold Rush with a day full of golden activities. Aspects of the gold rush were worked into all academic areas throughout the day, such as the concepts of supply and demand, trading, and safety while mining.
1) The class prepares to enter Ol’ Brouhard Mine
2) Students work on math problems found on gold nuggets in the mine.
3) Lila Gerber and Eli Baker mine for chocolate chips.
