FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — State Representative Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) passed House Joint Resolution 58 on Thursday to name the Springfield Road overpass on US Route 20 in Stephenson County in honor of late Trooper Brooke Jones-Story.
“Trooper Jones-Story was often stationed at this overpass ensuring the safety of our roadways,” said Chesney. “This is a fitting tribute to her memory and a reminder to us all to practice good driving safety practices, including compliance with Scott’s Law to move over for stopped emergency vehicles.”
Trooper Brooke Jones-Story was tragically killed in the line of duty on US Route 20 on March 28, 2019. House Joint Resolution 58 passed unanimously on May 23 in the Illinois House. Rep. Chesney requested that all member of the Illinois House be added as co-sponsors of the resolution, to which unanimous agreement was granted.
“While we honor the life of Trooper Jones-Story, may we also honor her memory by changing our behavior to be more vigilant, defensive drivers every day, in every situation,” Rep. Chesney continued.
Once HJR 58 is enacted into law, a naming ceremony for the overpass will be scheduled during Summer 2019.
